Your twenties are pretty much the best years of your life. You are earning your own money and living the dream life. You work hard and party harder. But through it all, are you forgetting to take care of your body? Here are the 15 most common health mistakes people make in their twenties that they regret later in life.
2. You don't sleep enough: A long day at work followed by a night of partying will leave you with barely any sleep. And while it won't affect you now, it can lead to premature ageing. Make sure you get a minimum of seven hours of shut-eye daily.
3. You don't drink enough water: With a busy schedule, it's possible that you might not drink enough water during the day. So carry a water bottle with you or keep one on your desk at work and keep sipping through the day.
4. You spend too much time on worthless relationships: There's no point chasing that boy who is totally disinterested in you; it'll just waste your time and energy. Instead invest in your career and education.
5. You take birth control lightly: It's not okay to leave it to your partner. Take responsibility for your own contraception. Choose your method of birth control after consulting a gynaecologist.
6. You don't have enough calcium in your diet: A poor diet may mean you are not getting enough calcium, which could lead to serious health conditions like osteoporosis later in life.
7. You have bad drinking habits: A glass of wine or a beer once a week is okay. But regular drinking can lead to liver damage as well as other serious diseases.
8. Your iron intake is insufficient: If you don't eat enough veggies, especially the green leafy ones, you could land up with an iron deficiency and anaemia.
9. You don't eat enough fruits and veggies: Lack of fibre in your diet can adversely affect your digestive system, leading to constipation, indigestion and bloating.
10. You don't use sun protection: Do you only use sunscreen when you are out on the beach or on vacation? Don't meant to scare you, but exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles and even skin cancer. So make sure to use sunscreen every single day. No excuses.
11. You wash your hair too much: Washing your tresses everyday can rob them of moisture, making them brittle and dry in the future.
12. You eat out too much: We understand that eating out might sometimes be the only option, but if you don't limit dining out to once a week, you will land up piling on the pounds and getting seriously unhealthy.
13. You go on crash diets: Extreme diets that give quick results wreak havoc on your system in the long run. Trust us, you are better off without them.
14. You skip meals: Skipping meals often leads to overeating and thus, unnecessary weight gain. Make sure you eat your meals on time, or carry small healthy snacks like nuts, fruits or baked nachni chips to munch on when you are hungry.
15. You exercise too little (or too much): Yes, too much exercise is a bad thing too. It is good to be active but excess exercise will leave you exhausted and prone to injury in the future.
